Whether you're a client preparing for an upcoming photoshoot or a fellow photographer seeking to enhance your skills, this guide is designed with you in mind. We'll cover everything from posing tips and outfit choices to location planning and weather contingencies. My goal is to help you feel confident, prepared, and excited for your photoshoot, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience. 1. How Can I Prepare Myself for Posing?

To ease any posing jitters, create a Pinterest board of poses you like. Familiarizing yourself with these poses will help you feel more confident and prepared for your photoshoot. Remember, your photographer will guide you, but having an idea of what you like can make the process smoother and more enjoyable.

2. What Kind of Outfits Should I Wear?

When it comes to outfit choices, versatility is key. Depending on your package, you may have the opportunity to bring multiple outfits. Here are some suggestions:

Women:

  • A cute dress

  • Jeans and a stylish top

  • A cover or cardigan that can complement either outfit

Men:

  • Jeans and a button up shirt

  • Plain t-shirt (no logos or graphics)

  • Jacket that can complement either shirt

3. What Colors Should My Family Wear?

I love how the Sigurs coordinated their colors! Perfection.
I love how the Sigurs coordinated their colors! Perfection.

Color coordination plays a significant role in the overall look of your photos. Here are a few tips:

  • Choose minimal to no patterns

  • Opt for two or more coordinating colors

  • Avoid having everyone in the same color to ensure individuals stand out

4. Do I Need to Choose the Location?

Your photographer will typically have a list of locations they frequently use, but if you have a specific place in mind, communicate this with your photographer. They can scout the location beforehand to ensure it’s suitable and the weather will be appropriate.

5. How Far in Advance Should I Book My Photoshoot?

It's a good idea to book your photoshoot as early as possible, especially during peak seasons. Many photographers recommend booking at least 4-6 weeks in advance to ensure availability.

6. What Should I Bring to My Photoshoot?

It's helpful to bring a few essentials:

  • Your outfit changes

  • Accessories like jewelry, hats, or scarves

  • Touch-up makeup or hair products

  • Comfortable shoes for walking between locations

  • If graduating, items related to your field of study or clubs

7. How Long Does a Photoshoot Typically Last?

The duration of a photoshoot can vary depending on the package and the number of locations. On average, a standard session can last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours.

With children, I recommend no longer than 1 hour - they tend to get tired of smiling after an hour.

8. What Happens if the Weather is Bad on the Day of My Photoshoot?

Your photographer will monitor the weather leading up to your session. If it looks like inclement weather, they will work with you to reschedule to a better day. If you want to be crazy, it's also very fun to take photos on a rainy day. (see example below)

9. How Long Will It Take to Receive My Photos?

Turnaround times can vary, but most photographers will provide an estimate. Typically, you can expect to receive your photos within 2-3 weeks after the shoot. However, if you have a special event and need the photos sooner - just let me know ASAP and I will do what I can to get them to you.
